About Carolyne Sakonchick

How long have you lived in Connecticut?

I’m a Connecticut native. I was born and went to school (both St. Mary’s grammar and high school) in New Haven. I graduated from the University of Connecticut and then went on for my masters in education at Central Ct.

What part of Connecticut do you live in, and why?

My husband and I moved to Cheshire in 1978, and raised a family here. We were drawn to Cheshire by it’s suburban yet somewhat rural flavor, and it’s great school system. It turned out to be a great place to settle.

What is your favorite locals spot?

My favorite locals spot isn’t a restaurant or a bar… it’s a vegetable stand! I love stopping at any one of the farm stands throughout town and picking up local produce from one of our farms.

What is your favorite time of year in Connecticut?

Fall… It’s beautiful here when the leaves turn.

What tip would you give someone moving to your hometown?

Just spend a day casually visiting and driving around the area. You will quickly see how pretty and pleasant the town is, and how easy it is to get to New Haven, Hartford, or even go in to New York on the train.

What makes you happy?

My family, my friends, my career, good weather, good health… when Uconn wins both NCAA basketball championships in the same year… lots of things.

What is your favorite childhood memory?

I spent my childhood wandering around the neighborhood on the Yale Campus up at the Divinity School and the Botanical Gardens, where we lived. We had much more unstructured time than kids do today, and I spent my after school time climbing trees, playing ball, hide and seek, kick the can, etc, with friends. Growing up in New Haven in the late 50’s and 60’s was an adventure. Just think about history for a moment and you can get the picture.

If you moved today and only had one box to take with you, what would you put in it?

All of my photos and memorabilia from family and friends.

How long have you been part of the Calcagni team?

My first career was as a classroom teacher. I left education to become a realtor, and I have been a realtor with Calcagni since 1989.
